Revision of Editorial Process from Thu, 2018-06-28 11:41

Manuscripts will be transcribed and edited for publication as follows:

1. The manuscripts will be transcribed and annotated by volunteers from scans of the original documents, and these transcripts will then given to other volunteers to check. These are the ‘first level’ transcripts.

2. The first level transcripts will then be carefully checked and edited by the Editors (Helen, Michael & Paula). These are the 'second level' transcripts.

3. The ‘second level’ transcripts will then be checked by the Archivist (Charlotte) to make sure that the formatting instructions and conventions in the Transciption Protocol have been followed. Charlotte will not check all the text against the scans of the original documents – she will only check text which looks problematic.

4. The second level transcripts will then be given to the Senior Editor (George) who will carefully read through them, checking any ‘suspect’ text against the original scans. He will also edit the endnotes and add additional ones if necessary. These are the 'third level' transcripts.

5. The third level transcripts will then be formatted for publication in The Correspondence of Alfred Russel Wallace.
