Hello from the new Project Archivist

Hi, my name is Caroline and I'm the new Project Archivist for the Wallace Correspondence Project. I've been in post now for 4 weeks and have been very busy getting up to speed on the progress of the project thus far. I've begun contacting repositories who hold Wallace correspondence and will be starting to catalogue the letters onto our project database soon.

I'm very excited to be a part of this project, which will create such a useful resource on Wallace and will hopefully provide impetus for future research into his fascinating life and work. I have previously worked on another Mellon funded project; the Director's Correspondence project at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and this really highlighted to me the importance of digitising correspondence. Letters contain such a wealth of valuable information for biographers and historians alike as well as the contemporary science community. I hope we discover some previously unknown facts about Wallace as time progresses!

Over the course of the project, I'll be blogging about our progress and highlighting any interesting and intriguing letters I've summarised.
