On Tuesday 31st July, we opened our doors to celebrate the official launch of Phase 2 of the Wallace Correspondence Project.

We welcomed representatives of the Charles Darwin Trust, the Corporation of London, and the Darwin Correspondence Project, along with scholars of the life and work of Alfred Russel Wallace. We were delighted to see so many of our friends and colleagues who have so generously shared their research and skills with us, including two of our project volunteers.

It was lovely to meet with such warm support from so many people, in celebrating the achievements of the first few months of the current phase. And it was great to have the opportunity to show off our shiny new offices in Buckhurst Hill.

In his speech, George thanked the John Templeton Foundation and the Charles Darwin Trust for their ongoing help and support. He went on to make a special announcement: the comedian and Wallace fan Bill Bailey has agreed to be a patron of the Project.

Thank you to all those who came, and to those who were here in spirit, for your continuing enthusiasm and interest in WCP. We look forward to marking many more milestones with you.
